A few weeks ago, we announced a rule by which you can get our rig for free if you hit 24 likes on Vimeo. Certainly, this is part of our marketing strategy. But you may ask why Vimeo? I have to say that there are just so many good reasons to use Vimeo. Not only good for us but extremely helpful for you!
1. Vimeo is a tool that can measure the quality of your demo reel. When you upload your work on Vimeo, you will start to get views, likes, and comments. Don't underestimate these data. They reflect the overall quality of your work. It's not 100% accurate. But it still gives you the basic idea about what level you are.
2. Vimeo is the best platform to let the potential employers see your work, even you don't apply for their job! There are many professional people working in the industry using Vimeo every day. Your future supervisor may be one of them. If your future supervisor happened to like your Vimeo demo, and you happened to apply for their job. Then what do you think is going to happen?
3. The most professional way to present your work! No advertisements at all! I think probably 99% people working in the industry are using Vimeo. It's already an industry standard now.
Since we started our business, we have received many messages, comments, and emails asking us to provides tutorials. Unfortunately, we currently focus on bringing more characters in the future.
But there is still something else we can offer as 'tutorials' at this moment. We truly understand that sometimes it's really difficult for unprofessional people to identify the right resources. But with our experience, we'd like to share some high-end materials with you and hope they can do some help for you.
First of all, we'd like to clarify that the artists or any other third parties will be mentioned later have nothing to do with our business. Furthermore, none of our people have personal connections with them. If we have, we will absolutely let you know. And the suggestions we offered is absolutely subjective from our point of view. We have tremendous respect for these schools and artists! We sincerely wish there won't be any misunderstanding. We only want to recommend some information we believe it's useful for you. And the information is just provided as a reference. We should not have any liability for the choice you make.
In this blog, We'd like to talk about rigging first since this is our strongest specialty! We have to mention at the beginning, there is always no short cut to becoming professionals. So there won't be a single tutorial teaching you how to build a rig like ours. The learning path is always stepped by step.
For these who don't know, rigging can simply be understood as building mechanism functionalities for still characters models. For world class rigging TD, you have to be an expert level of programming. It's one of easiest jobs positions that can get you into the industry, but also one of the most difficult subjects to learn.
Here below are some online programs we think are quite good! All their instructors are artists or technical directors working in the top industry!
And here are some resource from Artists:
Animator Friendly Rigging by Jason Schleifer
MAYA Pyhon by Chris Zurbrigg
MAYA UI Development by Jeremy Ernst
MAYA Python API by Chayan Vinayak
Muscle set-up by Andy Van Straten
MAYA C++ API by Chad Vernon
Hope these information can do some help for you!
To be continued....
